A edição do MTV Video Music Awards aconteceu na quinta, 6 de setembro, em Los Angeles, nos Estados Unidos. Apesar de Rihanna e Drake sairem liderando as indicações, foi a boy band One Direction que terminou a noite brilhando com três prêmios.
A noite ficou marcada também por shows importantes como dos veteranos Green Day, dos raps de Nicki Minaj e Lil Wayne e do pop de Pink, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys e Taylor Swift.
